Ein Mabua (Ein Fawwar) Baignade et plages · Judean Desert The middle spring of Nahal Prat, reopened to the public on 1 July 2026 after upgrading works. Ein Mabua is a rare karstic pulsing spring: water surges out of an underground cavity in bursts and the square bathing pool empties between beats. There is also a Byzantine church mosaic, ancient aqueducts and the remains of a 1931 British pumping station. Booking is compulsory and free — register before you drive out or you will be turned away. 
Tower of David Night Spectacular Sites historiques et visites · Old City - Jaffa Gate A 40-minute sound-and-light show projected onto the walls of the Tower of David citadel, telling Jerusalem's story in images and music with no spoken language. Two versions run - the classic Night Spectacular and 'King David' - ticketed separately from the museum. No entry for latecomers - arrive at the box office at least 15 minutes early. Entry is by advance ticket reservation only. Tickets must be booked in advance - the museum does not sell walk-up entry. Time Elevator Musées et galeries · Mamilla A motion-seat cinema in Mamilla running a 3,000-year journey through Jerusalem's history, narrated by the late Chaim Topol, in a hall of moving seats and 360-degree screens. A second show travels inside the human body, and the venue also runs a guided VR tour of Poland. English screenings must be arranged by phone on 02-6248381 - you cannot book them through the website. Bible Lands Museum Jerusalem Musées et galeries · Givat Ram (Museum Row) A museum of the ancient Near East next door to the Israel Museum, arranged chronologically through the civilisations of the Bible — Mesopotamia, Egypt, Canaan, Persia — around one private collection. Daily guided tours in English are included in the ticket. Free English guided tour Sun–Fri at 11:30, plus Wednesday at 17:30; no registration, just turn up. Friends of Zion Museum Musées et galeries · City centre (Nahalat Shiva area) A multimedia museum in the city centre telling the story of non-Jews who supported the Jewish return to Zion, through a sequence of hologram and projection halls. It is seen only on a guided tour, which must be booked in advance. Tours only - you cannot wander in. Book ahead online, by phone or by email. Hebrew Music Museum Musées et galeries · Nahalat Shiva A museum of Jewish musical instruments in Nahalat Shiva, laid out as seven spaces for seven diaspora cultures, with instruments you can hear and play and a VR element. Visits are done either with a live guide or with a tablet guide. The museum recommends its live-guide option over the tablet; ask for it when you book. Herzl Museum Musées et galeries · Mount Herzl An audio-visual museum at the entrance to Mount Herzl that walks visitors through Theodor Herzl's life and the birth of political Zionism in a guided sequence of rooms. Visits are by advance booking only; the same centre runs guided tours of Mount Herzl itself. You cannot just turn up: every visit is a timed guided session booked in advance on 02-6321515. Menachem Begin Heritage Center Musées et galeries · Above the Hinnom Valley, near Yemin Moshe An experiential multimedia museum above the Hinnom Valley telling the story of Menachem Begin and, through him, the Irgun, the long opposition years and the premiership, using reconstructions, documentary film and interactive screens. The museum is seen on a pre-booked guided tour. Pre-registration is obligatory - the museum is a timed guided tour, not a drop-in exhibition. Museum for Islamic Art Musées et galeries · Talbiyeh (HaPalmach St) The L. A. Mayer museum of Islamic art on HaPalmach St, with ceramics, metalwork, glass, jewellery and manuscripts from across the Islamic world, plus the celebrated collection of antique European clocks and watches. A small, calm museum that rarely gets crowded. Saturday is the day to drive: the museum lot opens free to visitors, while blue-and-white kerbside costs on weekdays. Museum on the Seam Musées et galeries · Musrara / the old seam line A socio-political contemporary art museum in a bullet-scarred building that stood on the 1948–1967 dividing line between the two halves of Jerusalem, mounting exhibitions on conflict, identity and coexistence. The roof looks out across the old seam. Open only three or four days a week and closed Sundays and Tuesdays - check the day before you set out. Rockefeller Archaeological Museum Musées et galeries · East Jerusalem, near Herod's Gate A white limestone Mandate-era museum just outside the Old City walls near Herod's Gate, holding finds from excavations across the country between 1919 and 1948, displayed largely as they were laid out when the building opened. It has been run as part of the Israel Museum since 1968. Phone the Israel Museum before setting out - the Rockefeller keeps limited hours and closes several days a week. Ticho House Musées et galeries · City centre (off HaRav Kook St) The nineteenth-century house off HaRav Kook St where the artist Anna Ticho lived and worked, now a downtown branch of the Israel Museum showing her Jerusalem landscape drawings alongside her husband's Judaica collection and visiting exhibitions. Tower of David Jerusalem Museum Musées et galeries · Jaffa Gate, Old City The citadel at Jaffa Gate, reopened in June 2023 after a decade-long renewal, with ten galleries telling Jerusalem's story through archaeology, film and interactive displays, plus the moat, the archaeological courtyard and the 360-degree view from Phasael Tower. The new entrance is to the RIGHT of the Jaffa Gate courtyard as you come off Mamilla - look for three red flags. Yad Vashem Musées et galeries · Har HaZikaron (Mount of Remembrance) The World Holocaust Remembrance Center, a 45-acre campus holding the Holocaust History Museum, the Museum of Holocaust Art, the Children's Memorial, the Hall of Names, the Avenue of the Righteous Among the Nations and the Valley of the Communities. Sold as self-guided entry, with guided tours bookable separately. Book a time slot online; last entry to the water tunnel is 1.5 hours before closing. Ein Kerem Village Walk Sites historiques et visites · Ein Kerem A stone village on Jerusalem's western edge, traditionally the birthplace of John the Baptist, with Mary's Spring, several churches and monasteries, artists' studios and cafes along winding lanes, about 20 minutes from the city centre. Take bus 28 from the Mount Herzl light rail stop rather than driving into the narrow lanes. Hurva Synagogue - 360 Lookout and Underground Passageway Sites historiques et visites · Old City - Jewish Quarter, Hurva Square The rebuilt nineteenth-century Hurva synagogue, the landmark dome of the Jewish Quarter, visited as a ticketed site with an underground passage of earlier remains and an upper walkway giving a 360-degree view over the Old City. Haas is the middle of three linked promenades that run for about 2.5 km. The Haas, Sherover and Goldman promenades link up into roughly 2.5 km of continuous walking. Nahal Katlav Parcs et nature · Nes Harim (Jerusalem hills) A wooded valley in the Judean hills near Nes Harim, inside the Nahal Sorek nature reserve. Its scenic trail — about 2 km, formerly the Schuster Trail — is one of the shadiest and most manageable real hikes near Jerusalem for young children; the longer loop past the Dir a-Shekh ruins is steeper and rockier. Take the scenic trail (Shvil Nofi Nahal Katlav), not the full Dir a-Shekh loop, if you have small children. Gazelle Valley Park Parcs et nature · Givat Mordechai / Katamonim A 260-dunam urban nature reserve in the middle of Jerusalem with a free-roaming herd of mountain gazelles, a lake, bird hides and a flat paved circuit. Entry is free and no booking is needed. No dogs are allowed anywhere in the park. Sacher Park Parcs et nature · Rehavia / Nachlaot / Givat Ram Jerusalem's largest green space, running between Nachlaot and Rehavia and the government and museum precinct at Givat Ram. It has the city's biggest lawns, a large modern playground, sports courts, an exercise park and a bike path. Picnics are fine anywhere; barbecuing is only allowed in the designated areas, which have coal-disposal bins. Sataf Parcs et nature · Jerusalem hills, near Ein Kerem A KKL-JNF site on the slopes above Nahal Sorek where ancient hillside farming has been restored: stone terraces, fruit trees, irrigation channels and two spring tunnels, Ein Sataf and Ein Bikura. Entry and parking are free, and a new visitor centre with a bakery-café opened in 2025. The Village Track runs about 2 km down to the lower car park; the Dryland Farming Track is about 3 km and linear. Wohl Rose Garden Parcs et nature · Givat Ram Israel's largest rose park, opposite the Knesset and below the Supreme Court, with some 15,000 rose bushes in more than 400 varieties, many of them gifts from other countries, plus lawns, a pond and a waterfall. Over 400 rose varieties are labelled with the country that donated them — half the interest is in reading them. Yad Kennedy Parcs et nature · Mount Aminadav (Jerusalem hills) A memorial to John F. Kennedy on Mount Aminadav, shaped like a felled tree stump ringed by 51 columns, set in Aminadav Forest with picnic areas, hiking trails and cycling tracks. Jerusalem Botanical Gardens Parcs et nature · Nayot / Givat Ram A 150-dunam university garden below Givat Ram laid out by world region, with a lake, a tropical greenhouse and a children's discovery trail. It is one of the few ticketed attractions in Jerusalem open on Shabbat. Jerusalem children under 18 get in free with a parent — bring proof of address. Liberty Bell Park Parcs et nature · Talbiyeh / German Colony A large central park stretching from the German Colony up to Talbiyeh, built in 1976 around a replica of Philadelphia's Liberty Bell. It has playgrounds, a climbable dragon sculpture, basketball courts, a roller-skating rink, the Train Theatre and Jerusalem's main skate park. It is one of the few paid attractions in the city that stays open on Shabbat. Buy tickets online before Shabbat and holidays; the ticket office shuts two hours before the zoo. Jerusalem Bird Observatory Zoo et animaux · Givat Ram A small bird ringing station and nature reserve run by the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel, tucked between the Knesset and Sacher Park. Entry is free and visitors can watch birds being ringed during migration seasons. Come early: ringing sessions run in the morning hours. Ein Yael Living Museum Zoo et animaux · Malha / Refaim Valley A hands-on archaeological site below Malha where families try ancient crafts — pottery, weaving, metalwork, mosaics — around a Roman-era villa and terraced springs, with a petting corner. Most of the year it takes booked groups only, opening to the public for chol hamoed festivals. Outside festival dates the site takes booked groups only — call 02-6451866 first. Omri Ranch Zoo et animaux · Ora (Jerusalem hills) A small therapeutic riding farm at the Moshav Ora junction, just outside Jerusalem, offering Western riding lessons for children and adults, pony rides and a covered petting corner with rabbits, parrots and hamsters. Biankini Beach Baignade et plages · Dead Sea A Moroccan-themed resort village on the northern Dead Sea near Lido Junction, 25 minutes from Jerusalem, with its own declared bathing beach plus a semi-Olympic freshwater pool, a toddlers' pool, a salt room, a kosher Moroccan restaurant and a synagogue on site. There is a synagogue in the village and the restaurant is kosher — unusual for a Dead Sea beach. Ein Bokek Central Beach Baignade et plages · Dead Sea The free public beach in the middle of the Ein Bokek hotel strip at the southern Dead Sea, run by Tamar Regional Council. Lawns, shaded areas, sand, play and fitness equipment, free umbrellas and chairs, showers, changing rooms and toilets, with a promenade, mall and cafés a few steps away. Entry, umbrellas and chairs are free — you only pay for parking. Ein Gedi Nature Reserve Baignade et plages · Dead Sea A freshwater oasis of waterfalls and pools in the Judean Desert above the Dead Sea, split into three areas — Wadi David, Wadi Arugot and the En Gedi antiquities with its ancient synagogue. Floods in May 2026 damaged the reserve and access is still limited: Wadi David is open only along the accessible path to the first waterfall, and the Ein Gedi spring and Dodim Cave remain closed. Phone the Parks Authority information line *3639 before you travel — trail closures after the May floods change often. Ein Hemed National Park Baignade et plages · Judean Hills A green, shaded valley park ten minutes west of Jerusalem, built around a spring-fed stream with lawns, picnic areas, a walking trail, a playground and a restored Crusader fortress. It is a picnic-and-paddle park rather than a swimming site — the water is a shallow stream and pool, best in late winter and spring when it is running. Come in February–April if you want water — by late summer the stream is low. Ein Prat Nature Reserve (Wadi Qelt) Baignade et plages · Judean Desert The upper spring of Nahal Prat (Wadi Qelt), twenty-odd minutes from northern Jerusalem, where a year-round stream runs through a desert canyon past bathing pools, ancient aqueducts and the working Faran monastery. The classic short family outing is the walk from Ein Prat down the wadi. Pollution in Nahal Prat has closed trails downstream and banned entry to the water on one stretch — check the Parks Authority site first. Kalia Beach Baignade et plages · Dead Sea The closest organised Dead Sea beach to Jerusalem, about 25 minutes away at the northern end of the sea, with mud on the shore, hot showers, changing rooms and a shuttle that runs guests down to the waterline. The ticket is all-inclusive, which makes it simpler than the beaches further south. Bring water shoes — the shoreline is sharp salt crystal, not sand. Metzitzim Beach, Tel Aviv Baignade et plages · Tel Aviv The family beach of north Tel Aviv, immediately south of the Port, refurbished into a modern beach while keeping the look that made the 1972 film it is named after. Hot showers, a baby shower, accessible changing rooms and a sheltered bay make it the easiest Tel Aviv beach with small children, and it holds the Blue Flag standard. There is a dedicated baby shower here — rare on Israeli beaches. Navat Yisrael Pool Baignade et plages · Shmuel HaNavi Jerusalem's largest fully separate pool, aimed at the haredi public, on Shmuel HaNavi Street. Free swimming, swimming lessons for all ages, water aerobics, hydrotherapy and rehabilitation swimming, plus saunas, showers, a men's mikveh, table tennis and table football. Always call the recorded line 02-6221522 before setting out — the timetable published on the website is out of date and the pool says so. Neve Midbar Beach Baignade et plages · Dead Sea A northern Dead Sea beach about 25 minutes from Jerusalem, with mineral mud on the shore, freshwater swimming pools, wide lawns and an air-conditioned kosher restaurant looking out over the sea.
