Accessibility statement

Jerusalem Local wants everyone to be able to use this website, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification or other assistive technology.

What we have done

• Every page has one main heading, a logical heading order, and header, navigation, main and footer landmarks. A "Skip to main content" link is the first thing you reach with the keyboard.
• Links, buttons and form fields show a clear outline when you reach them with the keyboard.
• Form fields have labels, and error messages are announced.
• The page language is marked for English, Hebrew, French and Spanish, and Hebrew pages run right to left. Guides that exist only in English are marked as English, so screen readers read them in the right voice.
• Every image in the guides has a text alternative.
• Pages reflow to a screen 320 pixels wide without sideways scrolling, including with text at the largest setting.
• The site follows your device's "reduce motion" setting.
• The cookie banner is not a pop-up that traps focus. You can read the page without answering it, and you can operate it with the keyboard.

Display settings

The Display settings button in the bottom corner of every page lets you:

• make text larger
• switch to a plainer font, or to Lexend, a font designed for easier reading
• increase the spacing between lines and letters
• raise or soften the contrast
• underline all links
• turn off movement

Your choices are saved on your device only and apply on every page. The panel works with the keyboard, and Escape closes it.

It is not an "accessibility overlay": the site itself is built to work without it.

What we know is not yet right

• The guides are written in English only. The Hebrew, French and Spanish sections translate the menus, pages and directory labels, but not the guides or the directory entries.
• The mikvah map is hard to use with a screen reader. The pins can be reached with the keyboard, but the list next to the map is the easier way in: it has every mikvah with its address and phone number, and the distance if you use "Mikvaot near me".
• Each image's text alternative has not yet been reviewed for how well it describes the picture.
• Some linked services (Google Maps, WhatsApp, other organisations' websites) are outside our control.

How we checked

In September 2026 the site's developer checked:

• every page's headings, landmarks and titles, with an automated crawl
• image text alternatives on all guides
• keyboard use of the menus, forms, cookie banner and display settings
• reflow at 320 pixels with normal and enlarged text, in English and Hebrew

The site has not had a formal audit against the WCAG standard or Israeli Standard 5568, and we don't claim a conformance level.
