Judean Lowlands
A UNESCO World Heritage landscape of man-made caves in the chalk of the Judean lowlands — the vast Bell Caves, the painted Sidonian burial caves, columbaria, olive presses and a Roman amphitheatre — spread over two areas on either side of Route 35. Cool underground even in summer.

Covered by a Nature and Parks Authority Matmon annual subscription and by the Israel Pass. There is a visitors' service centre, a souvenir shop, picnic areas and toilets. Ticketed evening events are run separately in the Bell Cave, such as the Ehud Banai sound-and-art piece, and are booked on their own.

About an hour from Jerusalem by car: Route 38 down to Beit Shemesh then Route 35 towards Kiryat Gat, or Route 375 to Ha'Ela junction. Route 35 divides the park into a southern area (Tel Maresha and its caves) and a northern one (Roman and Crusader remains) — you will want the car to move between them.

Most caves are entered on steps or ramps and children love the echo in the Bell Caves; some of the Maresha caves involve ladders and tight vertical shafts, so read the signs before taking small children down. Conseils d'initiés
- Take the car between the northern and southern halves — Route 35 splits the park and it is too far to walk in the heat.
- The Bell Caves are cool and shaded: save them for the middle of a hot day.
- Group prices start at 30 people and one person pays for the whole group.
- Last entry is an hour before closing, so a late-afternoon arrival is not enough time.
- The park closes entirely on Yom Kippur.
