Privacy policy

Jerusalem Local (www.jerusalemlocal.com) is an independent guide to living in Jerusalem. It is owned and managed by Anywhere Reality Industries LLC, a company in the United States, which is responsible for the personal information described here ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. It covers the site in every language.

The short version: you can read the whole site without giving us anything. We only get personal details when you send them in a form. We do not sell them, show advertising, or use advertising cookies.

What we collect

When you subscribe

The signup form asks for your email address, and your first name if you want to give it. We use them only to send you new guides and occasional site news. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send, or by writing to us through the contact page.

When you write to us

The contact form asks for:

• your name
• your email address
• optionally, a phone number
• the topic of your message
• the message itself

The "report a change" form on each mikvah page sends a message the same way. We use what you send to reply and to correct the site. Please don't include health details or other sensitive information that we don't need.

When you read the site

Like any website, our hosting provider receives technical information that your browser sends with every request, such as your IP address, browser type and the page you asked for. It is used to deliver the page and keep the site secure.

Visit statistics (which pages are read, roughly where visitors come from) are collected only if you press "Accept" in the cookie banner. If you decline, or ignore the banner, only cookies essential for the site to work are used.

Cookies and storage on your device

• Essential cookies are set by our hosting platform to run the site and to remember your cookie choice. They are always on.
• Analytics cookies are used only after you accept them. There are no advertising cookies on this site.
• Display settings (text size, font, spacing, contrast, link underlines, motion) are saved in your browser's local storage on your device only. They are never sent to us.
• The first-month checklist in one of our guides saves your ticks in your browser the same way.

You can change your cookie choice at any time with the "Cookie settings" button at the bottom of every page.

Who else handles your information

• Wix.com hosts the site and stores form submissions, subscriber details and statistics on our behalf. Wix may store data on servers in the United States, Israel, Europe and other countries. See Wix's privacy policy.
• Google Fonts: your browser downloads the site's typefaces from Google, which receives your IP address. See Google's privacy policy.
• OpenStreetMap: if you open the mikvah map, your browser downloads map images from OpenStreetMap's servers, which receive your IP address. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.

Shabbat and holiday times come from Hebcal, but our server requests them. Your browser never contacts Hebcal and nothing about you is sent.

Links to other websites (Google Maps, WhatsApp, the businesses in our directory) take you to services with their own privacy policies.

We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we do not share it with anyone else unless the law requires us to.

How long we keep it

Subscribers stay on the list until they unsubscribe. Messages are kept for as long as we need them to reply and follow up. You can ask us to delete either at any time.

Your rights

Under Israel's Protection of Privacy Law, and for visitors in the European Union or the United Kingdom the GDPR, you can ask to:

• see the personal information we hold about you
• correct it
• delete it
• withdraw a consent you gave, such as your newsletter subscription or analytics cookies

Where the GDPR applies, we rely on your consent for the newsletter and analytics, and on our legitimate interest in answering messages you send us.

To make a request, write to us through the contact page. You also have the right to complain to your data protection authority; in Israel that is the Privacy Protection Authority.

Children

The site is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16.

Security

The site is served only over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and submissions are stored on Wix's platform, not on personal computers. No system is perfectly secure, so please don't send us anything you would not want to put in an email.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and the date at the top of it.
