Latrun

The Armored Corps memorial and museum in the British Mandate police fort at Latrun, twenty-five minutes from Jerusalem: one of the world's largest collections of tanks and armoured vehicles, the Wall of Names, a synagogue and an auditorium. Children can climb on the exhibits in the outdoor park.

Child price covers ages 3–16. A single ticket now also admits you to the 'Jewish Fighter in World War II' museum, but that visit must be arranged in advance on 054-5075222. Friday and holiday-eve visits must be coordinated with the site at least a day ahead and paid for in advance — without a payment confirmation you will not be let in.

Discounts

Groups of at least 20: ₪25 an adult. Senior citizens ₪20; soldiers out of uniform ₪20; National Insurance disability ₪15 with a companion admitted free. Free entry for bereaved families, IDF disabled veterans, journalists on assignment, members of the Yad LaShiryon association and licensed tour guides with a valid card.

Getting there

About 25 minutes' drive from Jerusalem: Route 1 west to the Latrun interchange, then Route 3. Buses between Jerusalem and Modi'in or Tel Aviv stop at Latrun junction, but the walk in from the road is unpleasant — a car is far better.

Be aware that the films and displays include explosion, gunfire and siren sound effects, which the site flags — worth knowing if you have a child who finds sirens hard. Open on Shabbat 09:00–16:30 — unusual, and it makes for an easy Saturday outing from Jerusalem.
