Qué resolver

Cosas con plazo, con una norma o con un derecho que conviene reclamar.

  1. Choose the savings-plan fund before your baby is six months old

Bituach Leumi pays NIS 58 a month into a savings plan for every child, and you can match it with another NIS 58 taken from the child allowance. Choose a provident fund or a bank, and a track, within six months of the birth. If you don't, the money goes to a default (the fund chosen for an older sibling, otherwise a higher-risk provident-fund track) without the matching deposit.

  2. Claim the child allowance for children born abroad within 12 months

For a birth in an Israeli hospital the allowance starts automatically and is paid on the 20th of each month: NIS 173 for the first child and NIS 219 each for the second to fourth (2026 rates). Children born abroad need a claim form with a copy of their passport. File it within 12 months of aliyah or arrival; after that, only 12 months are paid back.

  3. After a birth: the grant, the birth certificate and the sefach

The birth grant is paid automatically within a month: NIS 2,103 for a first child, NIS 946 for a second and NIS 631 from the third (2026). Then take both parents' teudat zehut and the hospital's temporary birth certificate to Misrad HaPnim for the Israeli birth certificate (in English if you ask) and updated sefachim. The child must come in person for a first Israeli passport.

  4. Book Tipat Chalav and follow the vaccine schedule

Tipat Chalav well-baby clinics follow children from birth to age six and give the routine vaccines free. In Jerusalem a clinic is run by the Ministry of Health, the municipality or a health fund. You can book the first two online, in Hebrew only. Since 1 July 2026, children born from 1 January 2025 get their second MMRV dose at 18 months instead of in first grade.

  5. Under three: register for a supervised maon and apply for the subsidy

Maon registration opens in the spring. For 2026–27 it ran online from 15 February to 8 March 2026, and the 2027–28 dates are not out yet. The Ministry of Labour subsidy depends on income, and each parent must be working, studying or in another listed category. New olim get the top tier with no income test for two years after aliyah, if both parents are in ulpan or job-seeking.

  6. Gan is free from age 3, but you must register in the January window

Municipal gan is free and compulsory from age 3, and each year's intake goes by calendar year of birth. For 2026–27, registration ran online from 19 January to 8 February 2026. The 2027–28 window has not been published yet, but recent windows have opened in January. Tzaharon, meals and trips cost extra.

  7. First grade and school transfers have fixed dates

First-grade registration happens in the same winter window as gan. Children born in 2020 started first grade in September 2026. Asking to move a child to another school has its own window, which for 2026–27 ran from 18 February to 10 March 2026. Outside those dates the city must keep a registration office open at least once a week.

  8. Arrange tzaharon for gan and first and second grade

Nitzanim tzaharonim run Sunday to Thursday until 16:00, from September to June. They cover grades 1–2 everywhere, and gan in cities in socio-economic clusters 1–5. The Ministry's base price is NIS 672 a month, or up to NIS 935 for an expanded gan programme, and its subsidy depends on the city's socio-economic cluster. The local authority runs the programme.

  9. Put the 2026–27 school holidays in your calendar

Gan and primary school end on Wednesday 30 June 2027. The breaks are Chanukah, 6–12 December 2026; Purim, 23–24 March 2027; Pesach, 13–28 April (back on Thursday 29 April); Yom HaAtzmaut, 12 May; and Shavuot, 10–11 June. Recognised-unofficial (mostly charedi) schools follow a separate Ministry calendar.

  10. Plan July and August well ahead

Gan to third grade get the Ministry's subsidised summer programme in July. In 2026 it ran from 1 to 30 July, mornings only, with fees set by the city's socio-economic cluster. It ends with July. For a private kaytana, ask the operator for its Ministry of Education approval. Staff need a police clearance, and a gan-age camp may take no more than 35 children.

  11. Use a car seat or booster until age 8

Under the traffic regulations, children ride in a child seat or booster until age 8. Only seats made to Israeli standard 1107 may be sold. The Standards Institution advises keeping babies rear-facing until at least age one and 9 kg. A rear-facing seat must never go in a front seat that has an airbag.

  12. Get the mamad ready for small children

Home Front Command instructions change with the security situation, so check the current ones on its app or website. Don't rely on what applied last time. Go over the drill with each child at their level. In February 2026 the Ministry of Education also advised stocking the protected room with what little ones need: water, food, dummies, games and stories.
